SCHENECTADY - Theresa Costanzo, 91, passed away recently at her home surrounded by the loving care of her family, following a long illness. Born in her family home in Bellevue, Theresa was the daughter of the late Luigi and Giovannina ("Josephine" Falasca) Cardinal.
Theresa attended St. Columba’s school, was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for over 50 years, and was a member of their Seniors group. She was a loving homemaker with a huge heart who always looked for the good in people. She was a great cook & baker, loved her family immensely, enjoyed social events, family celebrations, embroidery, reading, singing, & old movies on TCM. She was famous for her flower gardens & was blessed with a "green thumb." She was a devout Catholic who prayed daily. She and her late husband Frank enjoyed many summer vacations at the beach and a few special cruises.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Frank Costanzo. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Yolanda ("Grace") (Louis) Frascatore, Frances (John) Mora, Anthony, & Albert, & by siblings-in-law Mary & Joseph Collamer, Antoinette & James Riggi, Helen & Anthony DiFulvio, & Edwin Ullman.
Theresa is survived by her Children: Rosalyn (James) Shaughnessy of Guilderland, Cory (Susan) Costanzo of Niskayuna, Susan (Eric) Yager of Burnt Hills, & Sandra (Thomas) Thorne of Niskayuna; Grandchildren: Jennifer Shaughnessy (Jason Harbeck), James Shaughnessy III (Kirin Furst), Carrie Costanzo, James (Deanna) Hannigan, Jaclyn (Patrick) Smith, Shelby Horn & Bryan Horn; Great Grandchildren: Kaliegh, Jack, Abbie, Giada, Francesco, Patrick, & Jillian; Great-Great Grandchildren: Onora & Aila; Step-Grandchildren: Kimberly, Matthew, Kristopher, Thomas, & Logan. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Marilyn Cardinal and Teresa UIllman, & many nieces & nephews.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Roberta Miller for her devoted care; Community Hospice, especially her nurse Melissa; & the many helpful ministries of her parish, especially Eucharistic minister Marlene.
Calling hours are Wed May 5 from 5-7 pm at the Bond Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin there the next morning at 9:15, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at her parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 1255 Pleasant St in Schenectady. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 100 Kings Road at Albany St, Schenectady.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send a donation in Theresa’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
