Robert Louis Girol,91, passed away at home on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Born in Schenectady, NY on July 3, 1927, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary DiGirolamo. Robert was also predeceased in 2003 by his wife Lucy M. Girol (Tersigni) of Schenectady and daughter-in-law Constance H. Girol (Hadsell) of Middle Granville.. Robert is survived by his son Michael R. Girol of Middle Granville, his daughters, Lorraine K. Girol-Lewis of Schenectady and Mary Girol Schmidt (Mark) of Niskayuna, grandchildren, Jessica A. Bradway (George), William R. Lewis III, Christina Schmidt, James Schmidt, Heather Schmidt and Rebecca Schmidt and his great granddaughter Isabella C. Bradway. Bob lived his life in Schenectady with his family, was educated in the Schenectady School System and graduated from Draper High School. After high school, Bob served with the US Army infantry during the Korean War. After the Army Robert's first job was in television repair and then went on to do flight testing at the Schenectady County Airport. His career was with the General Electric Company where he retired from the Machine Apparatus Operations Dept. (MAO) in 1988 as a quality control engineer. Bob was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, football and basketball especially the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Women's Basketball Team. Bob was an original member of the Schenectady Ole Timers Baseball Club founded in 1992. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday evening, October 18th at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. A mass of Christian burial will follow on Friday morning October 19th at 9 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, (formerly Our Lady of Fatima) 2216 Rosa Road, Schenectady, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment with military honors will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum in Niskayuna, NY. In lieu of flowers family and friends can make donations to a charity of their choice.
