Marguerite Burns

June 22, 1937 — October 20, 2024

Marguerite Ann(Nichols) Burns, 87, of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Born in Central Village, CT, Marguerite was the cherished daughter of the late Marguerite and James Nichols. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Burns.

Marguerite dedicated 25 years to the Schenectady School District, where she found deep fulfillment in working with students, sharing her love of learning, and contributing to the vibrant school community. Her career was marked by passion and commitment, and she embraced both its challenges and rewards.

In retirement, Marguerite joyfully embraced travel, frequently visiting her daughters in Arizona and California. Family was her greatest joy, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her two granddaughters, Breanna and Mya Burns, with unwavering love and care.
Marguerite will be remembered for her radiant smile, sparkling eyes, and infectious laughter that could light up any room. She faced life with a lighthearted spirit, rarely allowing its small difficulties to diminish her optimism. Above all, her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was boundless and steadfast.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Fernandes of Brooklyn, CT, and her seven devoted children: Marguerite Paludi (Ronald), Ellen Norton (Stanley), Robert Burns (Christine), David Burns (Andrea), Alice Capper (Ian), Mark Burns, and Suzanne Heilbron. Marguerite was also the proud grandmother of 18 loving grandchildren: Jennifer, Joseph, Allison, Dan, Stephen, Kristi, Lindsey, Meghan, Trish, Heather, Amy, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Breanna, Mya, Benicio, Christopher, and Heather Capper. She leaves behind many adoring great-grandchildren, including Makenna, Rowan, Vienna, Evelina, Samba, Addison, Reyna, Eddie, Jeremy, Ryan, Madalynn, Samantha, and Jude.

Marguerite’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the years of compassionate friendship and support she received from her late neighbor, Marie McDermott—the best neighbor one could ask for. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Glendale Nursing Home and Community Hospice for the compassionate care provided during her time with them.
