Lore M. Ellis

Lore Ellis – 101, passed away at the Glendale Home on Saturday March 15, 2025.Born May 6, 1923 in Wilbach, Germany to the late Fredrick and Marie (Lenzer) Mayer.

Predeceased by her husband David, twin sister Elfriede Van Wormer and Marie Seck of Schenectady.

When she was two years old, her family immigrated to the Amsterdam, New York area. After a fire consumed their home, the family moved to the Bellevue area of Schenectady and later to Rotterdam.After graduating from Draper High School, she worked for several years at the General Electric Company as an office worker. In 1953, she married her beloved husband David and became a homemaker. Together, they raised 3 loving sons, David (Devie) of Wheatfield, N.Y., Bill of Rotterdam and Jack (Patricia) of West Glenville. She was the grandmother of Elizabeth Van Loon (Brad), Kathryn Peterson (Brian), Laura Leitten (Jake) and Derek Ellis (Nick). She was the great grandmother of Andrew and Olivia Peterson. She is also survived by her nephew Richard (Jenny) Van Wormer and several nieces and a nephew in Great Britain.

Lore has been a member of Messiah Lutheran Church since 1930. As a child, she and her sister Elfriede would ride their bikes to each member’s house and hand deliver the church newsletter. Together, with her husband, she worked on setting up and maintaining the church landscaping. They also enjoyed working on their gardens at home and always had everything looking nice. She was always willing to stop and help her friends and neighbors with their gardening. She also enjoyed making big meals for her family and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Glendale Home, especially the staff at Union Station for the excellent care and compassion to Lore during her stay there.

Funeral Services for Lore will be Saturday March 22, 2025, at 11am at Messiah Lutheran Church 2850 Guilderland Avenue Rotterdam. Visitation will be from 10-11am at the church.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
