Consul Rocco "(Con)" Ciancetta

Consul (Con) R. Ciancetta passed away on August 3 with family and friends by his side. Born Consolino Rocco Ciancetta, in Sambuceto, Abruzzo, Italy on January 8, 1924 to Benigno Ciancetta and Aquelina Mincone, he was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Margaret Mary Gallo Ciancetta, brother Nino Ciancetta and his grandson Christopher David Ciancetta. Con is survived by his three sons Thomas (Patricia Clausi) of Glenville and David (Debra) of Duanesburg, Paul of Los Angeles; grandchildren Michael of Haledon, NJ; Nicholas (Ariane Miyasaki) of Schenectady and Maria (James Judge) of Philadelphia, Ashley (Dino) Mancino along with his great grandsons Kepler and Giovanni and his companion Marjorie Burbine. After graduation from Mont Pleasant High School in 1942 he worked for the American Locomotive Company. From 1942 to 1946 Con was called to duty to serve with the 6th Army in General McArthur's forces in the Asia and Pacific Theater serving in New Guinea and the liberation of the Philippines. During this time he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and served in the initial force that occupied Japan during the surrender of Japan aboard the USS Missouri. Commendations and ribbons were awarded for his service. Upon completing his tour of duty, he received his BBA from Siena College in accounting. Shortly thereafter he married his McKinley Junior High sweetheart and the love of his life Margaret Mary Gallo. He joined the Sperry Rand Corporation in sales and marketing retiring in 1972. Summer time vacations were always an adventure while camping, boating and fishing with his family throughout the Adirondacks and New England. He was an avid swimmer, received numerous awards in handball invitational tournaments and was a runner in the YMCA 500-mile club. He also enjoyed travels to Italy to visit cousins, uncles and friends. He was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Club, Rotary East, Rotterdam Elks and Schenectady Amateur Radio Club where he volunteered to assist during emergency disasters, and enjoyed meeting for weekly breakfasts and luncheons with his friends Dennis, Jerry, Rich and Bob. During his youth he joined the Boys Scouts and very proudly attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a violist and violinist and was a violist as an early member of the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning August 8th at 10:15 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY followed at 11 am at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Schenectady, NY In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made for Consul in the name of his grandson Christopher David Ciancetta to Weill Cornell Medical College, Office of External Affairs, 1300 York Avenue, Box 314 New York, NY 10065.
