August "Augie" Maura, 87, died Friday May 23, 2008 at home in Princetown surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 11, 1921, he was the son of the late Louis and Mary (Comanzo) Maura. Augie served in WW 2 in the US Army as an MP. He was in the construction business working with his family as Futurama Builders. He also served the County of Schenectady, as a Deputy Sheriff, enjoying his duties on the motorcycle patrol. Augie was a committeeman for the Rotterdam Republican Club for many years before becoming the Rotterdam Superintendent of Highways in 1980 until his retirement in 1990.He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks, the Masonic Lodge, the Republican Club and the VFW. Besides his parents, Augie is predeceased by two sisters Dorothy Donofrio and Ann Trionfini. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Muriel, their six daughters- Wendy Maura of Golden, CO, Debra Higgins (Tim) of Princetown, Kim Ashley(Scott) of Esperance, Mila Hover (Lynn) of Issaquah, WA Vickie Schellenger (Larry) of Rotterdam and Shellie Boffa of Port Orange, FL., three brothers- Edward Maura (Shirley) of Holly Hill, FL, Nicholas Maura (Denise) of Princetown, Louis Maura Jr. (Diane) of Glenville, one sister Margaret Baker of Little Rock, Arkansas, 2 brother in laws, Steve Donofrio of Princetown and Rudy Trionfini of Leesburg, Fl., also survived by 12 Grandchildren- Valerie O' Dell ( Jim), Nikki France, Tim Higgins Jr (Fiance' Lindsay), Jake Hover, Travis Hover, Kara Hover, Shanae Hover, Moriah Schellenger, Meghan Schellenger, Gino Boffa, Nico Boffa and Jovonna Boffa as well as 5 Great Grandchildren-Zachary, Jesse and Shane O'Dell and Austin and Kylie France as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be Private on Tuesday 2 pm for Relatives and Close Friends at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue,Schenectady. Entombment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam. The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the nurses and staff of Ellis Hospital and Hospice for making his last days comfortable.
