Zofia Helena Mazur

Schenectady – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Zofia Helena Mazur. Zofia passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 88, following a long and exhausting illness.She was born on May 15, 1938, the daughter of Józef Mikus and Julianna Mikus (née Rzepka). Her family survived the turbulent years of World War II and the difficult early postwar period in Poland—a time marked by tragedy and hardship for so many families.Throughout her life, Zofia was defined by her tenacity, spirited nature, and dreams. She pursued those dreams with courage and hard work, overcoming the many challenges and adversities life placed before her. After completing her education in Sandomierz, Poland, she began her career as a teacher and later became a bookstore manager. Surrounded by books for much of her life, she developed a deep appreciation for literature and knowledge and cultivated a lasting legacy of culture, refinement, and learning.She is survived by her two children, Cezary Mazur ( wife Dorothy ) and Aneta Cemerys ( husband Adam ); five grandchildren, Ludwika, Karolina, Filip, Oktavia, and Klementyna; and two great-grandchildren, Julian and Charlotte. Her love and the mark she left on her family's lives, and on the lives of all who knew her, will endure long after her passing.Rest in peace, Zofia. Your memory will live on. The love, kindness, laughter, and cherished moments you shared with us will continue to resonate in our hearts. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
