Winifred R France

August 14, 1925 — January 5, 2017

Winifred Ruth Fichtner France, 91, entered into eternal life on January 5, 2017. Her place of departure was at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia. Winifred was born on August 14, 1925 in Schenectady to Bennett and Olive (Dauchy) Fichtner. She married the late Elbert Henry France in 1945. The love of her life, they remained devoted to each other for over 56 years until his death in 2002. Winifred devoted her entire life to her family. She enjoyed being a homemaker, reading, crossword puzzles, classical music and above all her cats. Much time was spent visiting her friends from the First Baptist Church led by the loving and inspirational pastor, Carole Miller. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved pink flowers. She was the perfect example of what a mother should be. Winifred is survived by her daughter Linda Ruth France Cuthbert (Daniel) and her grand daughter Amanda Lynn of Duanesburg, her son Allan Henry France and his husband John Valentino of New York City, one sister Joyce Gaige of Yukon, OK. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Winifred is predeceased by her husband Elbert Henry France, brothers and sisters- Dorothy Russell, Jessie Becker, Raymond Fichtner, Donald Fichtner, Olive Rockefeller, Robert Fichtner, Russell Fichtner and Gladys Renna. A graveside funeral service will be held in the spring at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam. The family would like to give thanks to the staff of the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center for their professional and devoted attention to our wonderful mother. May she rest in peace for eternity, and yes Mom we shall meet again! In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Winifred's memory to the Animal Protective Foundation 53 Maple Avenue Scotia, NY 12302. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
