William E. Witts 98, passed away on Saturday August 7th at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born in Scranton, PA, Bill was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Androkrwitz) Witts.
A World War II Navy Veteran, Bill served as a coxswain driving the landing craft during the battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific Conflict. After his time in Navy, he returned to Schenectady and went to work for the A.L.C.O. and later for the City of Schenectady for over 32 years prior to his retirement in 1987.
A member of St. Luke’s Church, Bill was an avid hunter and gardener, a lifetime member of the Rotterdam Elks and Hank’s Golf League and a member of the American Legion. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at camp on Sacandaga Lake.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of over 72 years Helen (Wisniewski) Witts in April of 2020, Bill was also predeceased by his siblings Chester Witts, Josephine Brudzinski, Gladys Thibault and Eugene Witts.
Bill is survived by his daughter Christine Witts of Schenectady and his son and hunting partner Billy Witts (Cathy Loveday) of Hope, NY, sisters Eleanor Mclaine of Rotterdam and Florence Conway of Denver, CO and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 13th at 8:15am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady followed at 9 am at St. Luke’s Church,1241 State Street, Schenectady, NY where a Mass of Christian burial will be held. A visitation for Bill will be held on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady, NY
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to St. Luke’s Church.
