William J. Hammond, 88, of Rotterdam passed away Friday March 1, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of Frank and Joyce (Talbot) Hammond. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1946.. William was employed for the HS Barney Store in Schenectady and after was a Draftsman for the General Electric Company for 36 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. William also enjoyed his membership in the Shriners, Masons and Rotterdam Elks. He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Nolan) Hammond, his daughter Susan Lubking (Dan) and one sister Florence Hammond (Noel) and also a very dear special friend Alice Jane (Brooks) Myers. William is survived by one son Douglas W. Hammond ( Judy) of Guilderland, one brother Edward Hammond of Schenectady, also survived by 4 Grandchildren-Kenneth Hammond ( Pamela) of Rotterdam, Douglas J. Hammond of Albany, Darcy Lubking of Troy and Sarah Lubking of Troy, two great grandchildren and one niece Sandra Kortz (Dick). Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours by request. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie.
