William Brower, 68, of Charlton, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 23, 2011 after a long illness. Bill was born in Schenectady, NY, the son of William Brower and Anna Greenwood Brower. He was a graduate of St. Columbus. Bill worked for the Golub Corporation in Rotterdam, NY for 25+ years. He held various positions and eventually became the Superintendent of Transportation, a job he very much enjoyed. Through his position at Golub, Bill was able to give back to the community, especially during the holiday season and could often be found dressed as Santa Claus. Known as Butch to his family, friends, and co-workers, Bill attended the annual NYS Motor Truck Association Truck Driving Championships each year to support and encourage his drivers and friends. Bill was an enthusiastic member of the Knights of St. John in Schenectady, NY where he enjoyed meeting with friends to play cards. Bill was also an avid Yankees fan and spent a great deal of time in the later years of his life watching the game in his room at Baptist Retirement Center. In 1978, Bill married Deborah Houck with whom he had three children. Although he was not a fan of swimming, Bill took many family vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC where he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bill was well-known to bring life to any get-together and had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Bill is survived by his five children, Heidi Brower of Ballston Lake, William Brower of Charlton, Robert Brower of Charlton and Carolyn and Christine Brower of Schenectady; his sister, Catherine (Charles) Barrie of Schenectady; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning August 27, 2011 at 9:15am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady followed at 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, 600 State Street, Schenectady where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. A visitation will be held on Friday evening August 28th from 5 to 8 pm at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. The family would like to thank Baptist Retirement Center for their care and kindness throughout the final year of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Bill's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
