William D. Battaglino

Aug 13, 1949 — Sep 8, 2026

Rotterdam, NY

William D. Battaglino, affectionately known as “Bill” and “Batman,” 77, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Ellis Hospital.

Born on August 13, 1949, in Schenectady, NY, Bill was the son of the late Edward and Agnes Battaglino and one of their two children. He grew up with a love for fishing and hunting, especially with his brother, Joseph. In later years, Bill shared those same passions with his son, John, and eventually with his grandsons.

Bill worked at GE for 30 years as a tool grinder until his retirement. He was a devoted and loving husband to his beloved wife, Alex, and a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his family, and he took great pride in the life and family he and Alex built together.

Bill had a special way of bringing people together, often through food and time spent around the table. During the summer, his Sunday barbecues became a tradition where family and friends gathered, laughed, ate, and enjoyed one another's company. Everyone was always welcome, and there was always room for one more at Bill's table.

Bill's kindness and generosity extended far beyond his own family. He became a father figure to many of his children's friends throughout the years, offering them the same warmth, guidance, and sense of belonging that he gave his own children. To Bill, family was not defined solely by blood; he welcomed so many into his life and heart as if they were his own. He was genuinely loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him and will be deeply missed. Bill also enjoyed playing cornhole during the summer months and looked forward to guys' card nights in the fall and winter.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Alexandra Battaglino; his son, John (Christina) Battaglino; and his daughters, Kathryn (Ryan) Desbiens, Kristina (Joseph) Edick, and Agnes (Matthew) Rutnik. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Justin, Joseph, Dominic, Leah, Ethan, Nino, Jackson, Blake, and Dakota.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Battaglino.
