"A dream doesn't become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work" Colin Powell William George Assenheimer 69 died March 4, 2018 at home after a along illness. Bill was born on March 24, 1948 in Niskayuna to the late William M. Assenheimer and Eleanor H. Pelts Assenheimer. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School in the Engineering and Technical School, Bill continued his studies at Fulton Montgomery Community College before beginning his storied career at the General Electric for over 40 years. It was referred to as the "family business" with his grandfather working 40 years and his father working 36 years in the service of the GE. Bill was admired and respected by the administration as well as his coworkers. Over the years he became a legend for his skill, his strength and developing techniques to accomplish the job. Above all, Bill is known as a true Family man, he would say, it's a small family but a mighty one. He loved being surrounded by his friends, especially at his favorite place on earth, Mariaville Lake. Uncountable hours were spent boating, waterskiing and teaching others his favorite sport. He was a true animal lover, not just dogs and cats but his wild turkeys and deer that frequented his yard. His other interests included Race Cars and his numerous trips to Fonda Speedway. Bill was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Mariaville Lake Civic Association. Bill also attended St Kateri Tekakwitha Church on Union Street in Schenectady. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Patricia A. Corkey Assenheimer and his daughter Danielle J Assenheimer (Scott Villeneuve) both of Guilderland, NY, his brother-in-law Lawrence G. Corkey and wife Elaine of Rock Hill, NY, his sister-in-law Michele Corkey of Middletown, NY and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday March 9th at 1:30 pm at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, 2501 Troy Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, NY. A visitation will be held on Friday from 11am to 1 pm at the Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Broadway @ Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY prior to the service at the mausoleum. The family would like to thank Dr. David Shaffer and his team at Albany Medical Center, Dr. Peter Rienzi and Dr. Rahmon for the years of care. Contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Mariaville Lake Civic Association, 628 South Shore Rd., Delanson, NY 12053 or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204
