Virginia Barkley, 94, of Schenectady passed away peacefully at home with her loving family on May 12, 2016. Born in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Roland Baillargeon and Ethel Benton. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Virginia was predeceased by her husband James Barkley and a brother Ralph Baillargeon. In the early years, Virginia worked at the General Electric until she had her children. After they were grown she was employed at the State Department of Motor Vehicles for 18 years before retirement. She had a passion for reading. She loved hand quilting and crocheting and made many beautiful quilts, placemats, pillows and wall hangings. In her earlier years Virginia and her husband enjoyed dancing, roller skating, bowling and in later years traveling. Throughout her whole life, playing bridge, pinnacle, and canasta with her family and friends was a great source of enjoyment for Virginia. Virginia was the loving mother of three children, Barbara (Robert) Wade of Ravena; Susan Neary of Rotterdam and James (Laurie) Barkley of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Costello; Christine (Michael) Keel; Robert Wade; Melissa (Joseph) Bielinski; Linda (Martin) Cole; Heather ( Ryan) Harden; Daniel (Stephanie) Engle and Michelle (Greg) Miller. Also survived by thirteen great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Michael, Jacob, Cameron, Ryan, Andrew, Jackson, Sarah, Kevin, Jason, Brooke, Dominic, and Caleb and her best friend and cousin Paula Syzdek. She will be greatly missed by all. A special thank you for the loving care Virginia received from Patty Mc Lean, Brenda Gonzalez and Barbara Cearly, along with the staff at Hospice. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call Saturday, May 21 at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady from 12:30-2:30pm. Services will begin at 2:30pm. Burial will be at Schenectady Memorial Park on Monday, May 23 at 2pm .Donations may be made in Virginia's memory to Hospice of Schenectady, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
