Tonia Michelle White was born December 19, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York to Cecilia "Tiny" Spencer and Jerome Cox. As an infant, Tonia was adopted and raised by her great aunt Christina L. "Bamma" White. Tonia and Bamma shared an unbreakable bond, and they have now been reunited. Tonia received her education through the New York City school system. As a multitalented singer and dancer, she spent the early part of her life advocating for children in her community, giving endless hours of her time at the local community center and her home teaching them to dance and sing. In 1991, Tonia met the love of her life, Maurice Folks, and moved to Schenectady, NY. From their loving union, they created 5 beautiful children. Tonia was a great mom and worked very hard to ensure their needs were met. Tonia and her oldest son, Laron, helped to build their dream home where she and Maurice raised their children. Tonia had a wonderful sense of humor, but was quick to very bluntly put you in your place. She was a loving and supportive mentor to all her younger cousins, serving as a moral compass and teaching them important life lessons. Shortly before God called her home, Tonia was excited about reaffirming her relationship with God. Tonia was loved by everyone she came in contact with and will be missed dearly by all. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved Maurice, her five children, Laron, Shania, Shayla, Jalen, and Jarell, her Mother-in-law Josephine Artis, her siblings Sherilynne White, Jon White, James Buster "JB" Spencer, William "Darryl" Reid-White, Martin "Shaft" Spencer, her Sister-in-law Suprena Folks, her aunt Mary Ann "Maca" Jennings, and a host of family and friends.
