Thomas W. VanValkenburg 80, of Gainesville, Georgia and formerly of Schenectady, died Sunday October 21st at his home in Gainesville. Born in Plattsburgh, NY, Tom was the son of the late Isaac and Anita (Lagoy) VanValkenburg and a graduate of the College of St. Rose with a bachelor's degree in economics'. An army veteran of the Korean War, Thomas was a certified public Accountant for over 42 years when he retired in 1987. He was a member of St Gabriel's Church, Rotterdam Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree faithful navigator, a past county commander of VFW post 1895, the Rotterdam Elks, the Empire State Public Accountants Assoc. and the National Assoc. of Public Account's. Thomas was predeceased in 2005 by his wife Virginia Lesesak VanValkenburg and a brother Howard VanValkenburg. Survivors include his sister, Elizabeth Monty of Gainesville, GA., a brother Albert R. VanValkenburg of Pittsfield, MA and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning October 26th at 9:15 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady followed at 10 am at St Gabriel Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening October 25th from 4 to 6 pm. Interment in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
