Thomas (Tommy) J. O’Toole, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Astoria Queens, New York, to the late John and Helen (Collins) O’Toole.
After moving upstate, Tom began his family and established a career at NAPA Auto Parts and later on, the New York State Thruway Authority, from where he retired.
First and foremost, Tom was a very loving and dedicated father. He was also an incredibly proud member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge for over 30 years. Tom enjoyed being with his friends at the lodge and bartending for a variety of events. He was always enthusiastic to participate in as many Elks fundraising efforts and events as possible. Tom loved spending time at his dear friend’s camp on Sacandaga Lake. Also, an avid sports fan, Tom could always be found cheering on the New York Jets, Yankees, Rangers and Knicks. Tom also enjoyed many wonderful years with his four-legged companion Schultzy.
A few of Tom’s favorite memories were family summer trips to Wildwood New Jersey, tailgating with friends and family at New York Jets games, big holiday family gatherings and putting on neighborhood firework displays on the 4th of July.
Besides his parents, Tom is predeceased by his sister, Patricia O’Toole and his brother, Michael O’Toole.
Tom is survived by his sister, Maryann (Richie) Martini, three brothers, John (Lucy) O’Toole, Patrick (Patricia) O’Toole, Joseph O’Toole, two sons, Michael (Megan) O’Toole, Joseph O’Toole and stepdaughter Jamie Ryder. Tom is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
An 11am Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of Schenectady.
