Theo P. Wegner, 89, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018.Born on October 22, 1928 in Germany, he was the son of the late Anna Nehring and Julius Wegner. Theo grew up and was educated in Berlin, Germany before emigrating to the United States in 1952. After serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, Theo joined General Electric in Schenectady and worked there for 38 years. As a senior designer for Power Plants, Theo also oversaw construction projects in the US, Europe, and the Middle East. A gentle and loving person, Theo enjoyed life and loved spending time with his family and friends, many of whom were his neighbors. He also enjoyed reading and traveling. The apple of his eye ("Augapfel" in German!) was his granddaughter Caroline, who will always remember Opa as her favorite swimming partner. Theo is survived by Helga, his wife of 61 years, his daughter Kristine Wegner Bohn, son in law Terrence Bohn, and granddaughter Caroline Bohn, as well as two nephews and relatives in Germany. A Celebration of Theo's life will be Tuesday May 1, 2018 at 11AM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady, N.Y. Inurnment with military honors will be at a later date at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
