Stephen Paul Surin 47, passed away at his home on Thursday April 27th in Ft Pierce, Florida. Born on February 22, 1970, Stephen is the son of Paul A. and Joan (Zapp) Surin of Ft. Pierce and a 1988 graduate of Mohonasen High School in Rotterdam, NY A former president of the Draper and Mohonasen Choirs, Stephen played Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and coached his daughter's softball team. He was devoted to his 3 children and his granddaughter and he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his family. A former employee of Campbell Plastics in Schenectady, Stephen went on to work as a sales associate for Grainger in Albany, Marrifield and Richmond. A sergeant in the United States Army, Stephen served overseas during Desert Storm and Desert Shield and Enduring Freedom earning the Army Commendation Medal, the Component Achievement Medal (2nd Award), the National Defense Service Medal W/Bronze Service Star, the South West Asia Service Medal W/Three Bronze Service Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Stephen was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion Posts in Virginia and was a recipient of the Wounded Warrior Project. Predeceased by his brother John(2015) and his brother David (2016), Stephen is survived by his parents Paul and Joan Surin of Ft Pierce, Fl., his daughter; Katlyn Nicole Surin and her daughter Khloe and his sons, Paul A. and Stephen P Surin Jr. all of Clifton Park, his brothers; Michael Surin (Kathy) of Rotterdam and Joseph Surin (Casondra) of California, his former wife; Therese Laprade Surin of Clifton Park, God parents, Joan and Bill Fagel of Schenectady and several nieces ,nephews, great nieces,great nephews and Aunts and Uncles. Stephen's funeral service will be held on Saturday morning May 13th at 10:30 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY. A visitation will be held on Friday evening May 12th from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the family lot at Holy Cross cemetery in Rotterdam.
