Shirley J. Vanosky, 88, of Schenectady passed away at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday December 28, 2021. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Sarbo) Greiner.
She graduated from Draper High School and was employed in drafting for the General Electric Company in Schenectady until she was promoted to the matriarch of her family.
She was a longtime parishioner of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Schenectady until its closing. Shirley bowled for many years in several leagues and was an avid reader. She always put family first and enjoyed family gatherings and attending all of her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She also had many lifelong friendships and had a variety of interests such as arts and crafts, continuing education, and attending many shows and concerts. She also enjoyed boat rides, going out to dinner and the many trips to New York City and Boston Harbor.
Shirley was also predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Vanosky, Sr., in 1993 after 37 years of marriage, her dear sister Karen (Greiner) Cooper in 1981 and many other extended family and friends who were much loved.
She is survived by her three loving children Mary Jo Nardini (David) of Rotterdam, David R. Vanosky (Terry) of Rotterdam and Robert J. Vanosky, Jr. of Schenectady, her five loving grandchildren Jerry Nardini, Amanda Nardini (Dave Jackson), Lindsey Vanosky (Dan Lanza), Josh Vanosky and Jordan Vanosky as well as two much loved great grandchildren Lucianna and Jax. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Anna Reynolds of Rotterdam, her dear aunt Virginia Paolelli of the Philippines, her best friends Lorraine Ostapow of Rotterdam and Georgia Dagostino of Rotterdam as well as her close cousin George Gutchell (Teshia) of Rotterdam and many much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass to celebrate Shirley’s life will be on Tuesday January 4, 2022 at 1PM at St. Luke’s Church 1241 State Street Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There will be no calling hours by request. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady.
