Rose Fetter. a long time resident of Schenectady, N. Y. died Friday, May 16,in Boulder, Co]orado at the age of 99. Born in Rexford,N .y .Mrs. Fetter was the second of six children born to Krikor and Rose Epremian. Gifted academically and intellectually, she was educated in Schenectady public schools and studied at Radcliffe College in Cambridge. Massachusetts, graduating in 1930 cum laude with a major in Spanish. After returning to Schenectady, she met Leland L. Fetter. They were married in 1939 and had one child, Richard, born in 1943. In the mid-1950s. Mrs. Fetter returned to school for an M.A. in Education from Oneonta State Teachers College in Oneonta, N .y. She spent most ofher teaching career at Pashley School in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake District., working frequently with the talented and gifted elementary school students. She received awards and recognition for her work and maintained contsct with former students and thcir parents long after she retired in 1973. Following her retirement, Mrs. Fetter enjoyed travel and volunteering. She made one trip around the world and another to China, when that country first began opening its doors more widely to the outside world. Her volunteer work was on behalf of the Schenectady County Public Library and the Schenectady County Historical Society .In recognition of the thousands of hours she gave to these two organizations, the mayor of Schenectady declared a Rose Fetter Day when she retired from her volunteer efforts. Throughout her life. she was an avid reader, loved to knit and sew and, until into her 90s, did The New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle. Although cooking was not one ofher interests, how to make apricot upside down cake and a good batch of brownies were treats she happily passed on to the next generation. More than that howevcr was her strong sense of integrity, her love of children and an unwavering belief in the importance of education. A teacher to the end and beyond, it was her wish that her remains be donated to medical science for whatever value they might have for future generations. She is survived by her son, Richard, of Boulder, her grandchildren. Joel Fetter of Arlington, Virginia, Scott Fetter of Denver and Todd Fetter of Aspen, one great- granddaughter, Jacqueline also of Arlington. her brother, Edward Eprernian of Sunapee, N.H. and her sister. Elizabeth Avakian, of Schenectady, N.Y. Her husband, Leland, preccded her in death in 1964. A mcmorial service will be held at Bond Funeral Home in Schenectady, N. Y.at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. June 21. The family requests that donations be made to one's favorite charity in 1ieu of flowers.
