Rose Barber

Rose M. Barber 94, of Schenectady passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2021 after being stricken at home. Rose was born on June 20, 1926, in Naples, Italy to Frank and Mary Ruby. She was a 1945 graduate of Whitehall High School. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Albert G. Barber. They had 7 children. Rose was a Deli Manager for Price Chopper Supermarkets and retired in 1985. She was an amazing woman, a fantastic wife, mother and Naunie. She was a true role model to her family. Rose loved to crochet. She made and donated thousands of “angel blankets” for the newborn babies at Albany Medical Center and made and donated thousands of “lap afghans” to many nursing homes in the area. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Albert, her son James R. Barber and her daughter Nancy A. Barber. She was also predeceased by her sisters Thomasina Lavenia, Anna Currier, Mary Cornell, Virginia O’Brien and her brother Francis Ruby.

Rose is survived by her children Carol Stringham (Donald) of Rotterdam, Rozann Barber (George) of Jacksonville, Florida, Allan Barber of Schenectady, Lori Spawn (Kevin) of Glenville, Peter Barber (Jackie) of Rotterdam, Daughter-in-law Gail Barber of Stillwater and her sister Theresa Arquette of Queensbury. She is also survived by her grandchildren Justin, Aubrey and Ryan (Amanda) Barber, Kristin (Jon) Stringham, Joshua (Sara) and Nicholas (Jennifer) Smith, Cody (Alex) Hill, Tyler and Ethen Barber, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services for Rose will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York at 965 Albany Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.

The family would like to thank the ER nurses and doctors as well as the nurses on the A4 floor at Ellis Hospital for all of their care. They would especially like to thank Susan Schmid for all of her help, love and care for Rose.
