It has pleased Almighty God to take unto himself the soul of Ronald H. King, 88, of Rotterdam, on Monday August 21, 2023. Ron is pre-deceased by his parents, Walter King and Marion VanValkenburgh Tourtellot, and also his brother Richard King.
Surviving Ron is his beloved wife and partner in adventures for over 68 years, Marlene King, his children, Jeffrey King (Kathleen), Janice Bahr (Samuel Maschke), daughter of the heart, Paula King, honorary son, Raymond Legere (Renee), and six grandchildren.
Also surviving Ron are his sisters-in-law Christine Vitrikas (Robert) and Bonnie Sue McRorie, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron served as a member of the National Guard for 25 years, and active duty in the Korean War. He may be most remembered by some as the Daily Gazette’s “face of downtown Schenectady,” working as an advertising representative for 42 years. He was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady, serving as their Financial Secretary for 20 years. In his retirement, he also volunteered his time at ESAM for 20 years.
His greatest joy in life was spending time with Marlene and his family – whether at home, or on their many escapades, while cruising or relaxing in their happy place in St. Maarten.
While Parkinson’s Disease took much of his physical strength and mental acuity at the end, it was never able to completely take his gentle manner, sharp sense of humor, and abiding love of family. All who love Ron are left with a sense of loss, but gratitude for having shared his life. Even though he will be missed in quiet moments and moments of uncontained laughter, Ron will always be held close in our hearts.
He is no longer imprisoned in his mind or body. Well done thou good and faithful servant.
Until we meet again.
Services will be held private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ron’s memory to the Schenectady City Mission.
