Roger Saddlemire, Sr., 88, a naval veteran, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather died Wednesday at Ellis Hospital of natural causes. Born in 1925 in Schoharie County, NY Mr. Saddlemire made his home in Charlton, NY. He was an active member of Burnt Hills United Methodist Church and will be sadly missed in the community .A true example of what it means to be a member of the greatest generation, Mr. Saddlemire served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during WWII before beginning his 37-year career in the large steam turbines division at General Electric, Schenectady. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Lois Saddlemire, his son Wayne Saddlemire (Flora), of Saratoga Springs, his sister Margaret Bailey (Philip) and his parents Foster and Elizabeth (Bartholomew) Saddlemire. He is survived by his sister June Waddell (Robert) of Duanesburg, his step-brother David (Diane) of Middletown, NY and his three children; Hilda Norton (Richard) of North Myrtle Beach, Sharon Morse (Charles) of Clinton, NY, and Roger Saddlemire, Jr. (Tracey) of Clifton Park. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren Michele, Shannon, Melissa, Shawn, Kristina, Shane, Thomas, Jessica, Kelley and Christopher and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 24, 2013 at 1:30 pm at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY with a visitation at the funeral home from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm prior to the service. Interment in Schenectady Memorial Park with military honors. Contributions may be made in Roger's memory to the Burnt hills United Methodist Church, 816 Route 50, Burnt Hills, NY 12027 .
