Robert Kniese passed away May 26, 2021 with his family at his side as they prayed for his peaceful passage to the lord.
Robert was born in Cohoes, NY on August 12, 1936 to his parents Beatrice and Frederick Kniese.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Janice, of 47 years of marriage. He has two sons, Robert (Rachael) of Scotia NY and David (Kathy) of Rotterdam NY. He has four cherished grandchildren- Luke and Faith, Nathanial and Julianna, and multiple nieces and nephews.
He also has two beloved sisters- Judy (Robert) Pena of Scotia, NY and Carolyn (Bruce) Riberdy of Rotterdam NY.
His younger brother Donald predeceased him in 2010.
Robert was a Navy veteran of 20 years from 1953 to 1975. While in the Navy, he graduated from the electronic school. He served in the 1st, 2nd, and 6th fleet. His travels while in service took him to Morocco, Ethiopia, New Zealand and two years in Antarctica. He enjoyed telling his family of all these adventures and showing snapshots of his travels.
After retirement from the Navy, he worked for GE for ten years as a System Service Technician. He remained at GE until the layoffs started.
After being laid off Robert worked for the NY Board of Fire Underwriters until his retirement.
Robert was an avid reader and loved to talk about history and politics. He enjoyed boating and was a frequent visitor to Cape Cod where he would sail in the ocean. Going to a campground and visiting his favorite, Herring Cove, was a weekly adventure for a long time. Robert was a wonderful husband and father who was concerned about their welfare at all times.
Robert’s family is eternally grateful for the wonderful Doctors and Nurses at Ellis Hospital where he received excellent care while in the 5th floor unit and in the ICU.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday Morning June 2, 2021 at 10am at the Church of St Adalbert, 550 Lansing Street, Schenectady, NY 12303.
Interment will follow in St Adalbert’s Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY.
At Robert’s request there will be not calling hours.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to Sisters of the Resurrection, 35 Boltwood Ave, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY 12033 or to the Church of St. Adalbert, 550 Lansing Street, Schenectady, NY 12303
