Robert J. Decarlo

Robert J. DeCarlo, 91, of Rotterdam passed away on Tuesday December 17, 2024 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Dominick and Irene DeCarlo.

He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Robert played pro baseball in the minor leagues. Robert also served his country in the Army during the Korean War.

Robert served for the Rotterdam Police Department for 30 years and retired as detective. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks, VFW Post 1895, the Sons of Italy, Corona Schipa, the Rotterdam Senior Citizens, the Young at Heart, Hanks Golf League, and Canali’s Golf League. Robert was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Rotterdam.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 30 years Arlene DeCarlo as well as his brother Dominick DeCarlo, Richard DeCarlo and George DeCarlo, along with his children Douglas, Mary and Joseph DeCarlo.

Robert is survived by his brother Joseph DeCarlo, John (Rae) DeCarlo as well as his sisters Mildred Klein and MaryAnn (Ralph) Pisano as well as Sandra DeCarlo, along with several nieces and nephews. Robert also is survived by his children Richard W. DeCarlo, Gary J. DeCarlo (Lisa), Robert J. DeCarlo Jr and JoAnn Nikolski(Donald). Robert also had several grandchildren, Robert J. DeCarlo, Josivi DeCarlo, Bobi-Jo (Ben) Crouse , Teia (Colin) Barnes and Gary DeCarlo  Jr.. As well as Great Grandchildren Miles, Brendon and Braylon.

Robert is predeceased by his second wife Delores DeCarlo, and survived by his step children Gary Shannon (Jamie), Susan Zarzycki (Donald) and Cheryl Samborin (Michael) as well as several step grandchildren, Alexa, Audrey and Andrew Shannon, also including Craig and Ben Zarzycki, Travis(Lisa) and T.J. (Samantha) Samborin

Visitation for Robert will be Sunday December 29th, 2024 from 2pm to 6pm at Bond Funeral Home located at 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.

Funeral Services for Robert will be Monday December 30, 2024 at 10:15AM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady followed by a Mass at 11AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Rotterdam.

Interment will be in St. Cyril’s Cemetery in Rotterdam.
