Robert W. (Bob) Borden Sr.,81, passed away Monday March 26, 2018 peacefully with his family by his side in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. The son of the late Harold and Charlotte Borden, Bob was born and raised in Rotterdam and was proud of his lifelong residency in the Carman area. A graduate of Draper High School, Bob proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. He was employed by the General Electric Co. for over 31 years, before he retired in 1996 as a quality control inspector with the Large Steam Turbine Generator Department. A member of the GE Quarter Century Club, Bob was also a life member of the Rotterdam Elks Club and a 31year member of the Broadalbin American Legion Post. After his retirement in 1996, he and his wife (Marilyn) traveled extensively with their motor home throughout the country. He enjoyed their winters in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. and their summers at camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake. Bob spent many years as an avid hunter and outdoors man, from hunting (especially Duck with his Lab's),, fishing and camping. He loved woodcutting (the chainsaw was his favorite toy). He also enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Sacandaga Snowmobiling Club. Bob leaves behind his wife of more than 60 years Marilyn (Feenan) Borden (from Broadalbin) who was the love of his life. His loving children, Cindy (Gregg) Hamilton, Robert (Monica) W. Borden Jr., Wendy (William) Thorpe. Known as "Pop" to his cherished grandsons, Garrett Hamilton, Christopher Borden, William Thorpe and Aaron Thorpe. Beside his parents, Bob was also predeceased by his son Michael P. Borden (2017), his sister Eunice Valle, Eleanor Maul and his brother Harold (Bud) P. Borden Jr. His sense of humor and smile warmed the hearts of many and he will be dearly missed by all. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday April 13th from 4 to 7 pm at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. A service will be held at 6:30 pm by the Rotterdam Elks Lodge # 2157 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held privately at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302
