Robert W. Bond 77 of Rotterdam died Sunday morning January 1, 2006 at home. Born in Schenectady, Robert was the son of Romine R. and Clara V. (Gilligan) Bond and a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School where he starred in football and baseball. A funeral director for 45 years, Bob was the former owner of the family owned Bond Funeral Home, Inc, in Schenectady. A devoted family man he was a graduate of Simmons School of Embalming in Syracuse, a member of the Rotterdam Elks, a former member of the Bellevue Businessmen's Association, the New York State Funeral Directors Association, Schenectady County Funeral Directors Association, the Masonic Order, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Rotterdam Boys & Girls Club and a Little League Coach. Bob loved Eagle Lake, NY and his home in Daytona Beach Florida and enjoyed fishing, golf and bowling. Bob was predeceased in 1996 by his beloved wife Joan M. (Donnelly) Bond who he married on June 17, 1950. He was also predeceased last year by his brother and business partner Romine R. Bond. Survivors include four children, Maureen J. Gabriele ( Tobie ) of Poughkeepsie, Robert R. Bond (Deborah) of Glenville, Eileen M. Wesley of Glenville and Christopher P. Bond (Cathy) of Raleigh, NC, a brother Donald E. Bond of Amsterdam , nine grandchildren, Matthew R. Gabriele(Rachel) of Berkeley, CA, Nicole C. Gabriele (Fianc?e'Jeff Hall) of Boston, MA, Ryan M. Bond of Philadelphia, PA, Timothy J. Gabriele of Poughkeepsie, Jennifer L. Bond, Adam R. Bond, Lucas J. Wesley, and Rebecca N. Wesley all of Glenville and Hannah A. Bond of Raleigh, NC, a great grandson, Ulysses R. Gabriele of Berkeley, CA and several nieces ,nephews, in-laws and many dear close friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning January 5, 2005 at 10 am at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave. Schenectady. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening for 6 to 9 pm. Entombment in Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna, In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 in Bob's memory.
