Richard J. Higgins, 63, of Stage Road Charlton died Sunday January 8, 2006 at Sunnyview Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness. Richard was born in Boston, MA and was the son of the late James Higgins and Henrietta (Decareau) Higgins. He was a graduate of Averil Park High School. Richard served in the Navy from 1960-1962. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for the Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority for 15 years. Prior to that, he was employed as an X Ray Technician for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. Richard enjoyed Photography and provided photos for Wedding Albums and Political Functions for many people. He enjoyed gardening, the ocean, collecting antiques and Saratoga Race track. Richard was a music lover enjoying Rhythm and Blues and artists such as Lou Rawls, Johnny Mathis and Luther Vandross. He was a compassionate animal lover. Richard cared for the Elderly and enjoyed loving and giving happiness and a smile to all he touched. He is predeceased by one son in law Paul Gallup. Richard is survived by his wife Karen Wolf Higgins whom he married July 28, 1995, one son Andrew Higgins(Junko) of Charlotte, NC, two step daughters Sherri Gallup of Gloversville and Tracy Bigelow of Schenectady, one brother James Beaudoin of Punxsutawney, PA, one sister Trudy Higgins of Averil Park, NY, his mother in law and father in law Dorothy and Carl Wolf of Schenectady, his brother in law Karl(Susan) Wolf of Saratoga, also survived by 6 Grandchildren Skyler Higgins, Kael Higgins, Ethan Gallup, Donovan Bigelow, Darien Bigelow and Shylah Bigelow, one nephew James Monlea(Ashley) of Schenectady, 2 Great nieces Alana Monlea and Gabrielle Monlea. Funeral Services will be Thursday 11AM at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be Wednesday evening 5-7PM at the Funeral Home. Internment will be Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Schenectady.
