Richard A. Bell 85 of Rotterdam died Wednesday morning June 27th, at St. Clares Hospital after a short illness. Born in Randolph, Iowa, he was the son of Fred and Flora Ruth (Adcock) Bell. A World War II Army veteran, Richard was a graduate of Nicholas Senn High School and received his Bachelors degree in chemistry from Union College in 1950. Richard worked at the General Electric Company in Schenectady for over 30 years as a chemist before retiring in the mid 1970's. He was a member of the Rotterdam United Methodist Church(Fisher United Methodist), the G.E. ? century club ,the Rotterdam Masonic Lodge, the Capitol District Masonic Association and a Tutor and board member of Literacy Volunteer's. Richard was predeceased in 1999 by his wife of 52 years Catherine (Ottman) Bell and a son-in-law Dennis Lewis. Survivors include his daughter Sharon B. Lewis of Peru, NY, a brother, John E. Bell of Chicago, Illinois. a niece Barbara Bell of Chicago, Illinois and a nephew Wayne Bell of Huntington, LI.. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning July 3, 2007 at 11 am at the Rotterdam United Methodist Church, Helderberg Ave, Schenectady, NY. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY from 6 to 8 pm. Interment in Memory's Garden. Contributions may be made in Richard's memory to Literacy Volunteer's 1510 Central Avenue, Suite 305, Albany, Ny 12205 or to Union College, 807 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308
