Reid Norman Jewett formerly of Schenectady, NY passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 80. Reid was born in Schenectady, NY on February 27, 1943, to Marshall and Geraldine Jewett. Reid was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 47 years, Sandra Danzig Jewett also from Schenectady, NY.

Reid graduated from Schalmont High School in 1961 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. While in college he was elected senator of the student government association.

Reid was a certified Airframe & Powerplant mechanic and held a commercial pilot’s license, with instrument and flight instructor ratings. He flew as part of his work in aviation for 45 years. He worked for United Technologies on the Apollo space program for 3 years, the New York State Department of Labor for 2 years, Page Airways at Albany Airport for 2 years and for the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, KS for 28 years.

Reid served as a helicopter crew chief in the Army National Guard for 6 years and was honorably discharged

Reid and his wife lived in Schenectady, NY, Deland, FL, Kansas City, MO, Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA before retiring from Cessna in Wichita, KS, whereupon they moved to Crossville, TN for 12 years. Upon the death of Sandra, Reid moved back to Schenectady to be close to her and his family.

Reid was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Sandra who was a ballet dancer and instructor for 30 years. He was in the Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts for 9 years. He was president of the Crossville Kiwanis Club. He was an avid competitive shooter who was vice president of the Chisolm Trail Antique Gun Association in Wichita, KS. He loved to fish, camp, hunt, and canoe in the Adirondacks. He also played the classical guitar and the mountain dulcimer. Reid was a friend to all and a good Christian man.

Reid is survived by his cousins Fern (Stanley) and Wilma Lee and their children, nephews, and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Bond Funeral Home in Schenectady, NY on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 11am with calling hours beginning at 10am. The burial will be at Memory’s Garden in Colonie, NY.
