Schenectady-Raymond J Young 75, of Schenectady NY died suddenly of Cardiac Arrest January 11,2020 at home in his favorite recliner chair relaxing while watching tv. Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania September 22, 1943. He was the son of the late Raymond N Young and Helena (Young) Loveless.
He was a outstanding basketball player and graduate of Linton high School 1963 after graduation he enlisted in the II US Army Corps October 20,1963 title specialty heavy weapons Inf he served until 1969 character of service honorable discharge. He was employed by General Electric of Schenectady for a number of years then found his calling as a Deputy sheriff/correction office at the Schenectady county Sheriffs Dept where is rose through the ranks to Captain. Raymond J Young and served with honor. He respectfully retired in 2003 after approx. 30yrs of service. He was an active member of the Duryee AME Zion Church in Schenectady where he served as a steward and vital member of the male chorus. Just like my mom he never complained and was there for everybody and all about our family he loved us and we love and admired him.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was predeceased by his father Raymond N Young his mother Helena (young} Loveless and his loving wife Olivia M (Bowman) Young whom he married August 11,1977 he is survived by four children Lisa C Davenport (Gregory), Douglas O Terry (Rozell), Raymond C Young (Erin) all of Schenectady NY and Kimberly Young. Three sisters Joyce Butler, Lorretta Slayton and Annette Young of Buffalo NY one Brother Dwight Young of California 17 Grandchildren Olivia, Greg Jr, DeWanna, Doug Jr, Christia, Corinthia, Deschel, Damond, Devon, Desmond, LaDainian, Demarco, Ramel, Lashanda, 'shaquil, Da'shauwn, and Christian. 9 Greatgrandchildren Clynesha (nene), Marcus jr, Ayana, Kaiden, Tishari, Yani, Ashari,(littlest Olivia, Doug Ill as well as several beloved nieces ,nephews ,cousins and many good friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday January 18,2020 12 noon at the Duryee AME Zion church 307 Hulett St Schenectady. relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be Saturday 10am to 12 noon at the church services at 12noon
Internment with Military honors will be in Park View Cemetery Schenectady NY.
Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
