Raymond C Gosda

Raymond C. Gosda, 96, of Rexford died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Facility in Clifton Park. Raymond was born on July 4, 1917 in North Andover, MA, the son of the late John and Emily (Anderson) Gosda. A veteran of World War II, Raymond trained war dogs and was sent to the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea where he used the dogs for reconnaissance. He was educated at Hobart College and the University of Chicago, graduating with degrees in Anthropology. His career began on the island of Truk, in the former Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, where he was the educational administrator for the Pacific Island Central School. In 1960, he joined the Agency for International Development as a community development advisor. He was posted in Iran, Malawi and Thailand. Raymond retired in 1972 and moved to Keene Valley, NY. He later relocated to southern California, where he lived until 2012 when he returned to this area. Raymond is predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Barbara T. (Jewett) Gosda who passed away in 1981. He is survived by his son David L. Gosda (Patricia) of Niskayuna and granddaughter, Tracy Fitzgerald (Jesse) of Glenville. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library, 475 Moe Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
