Phyllis R Caley (Rinehart)

March 9, 1931 — July 20, 2018

Phyllis Rinehart Caley went to be with her Savior on July 20,2018, at the age of 87. Phyllis lived in Kanawha, IA with her daughter and son in law and five of her grandchildren. She lived her life with grace and dignity to the very end. Phyllis was born to the late Allie Katherine Sample Rinehart and late Phillip Elmer Rinehart in Racine, Wisconsin. She graduated from Haverford High School in June 1949 and then attended Eastern Baptist College, in Philadelphia, PA. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing. On June 6, 1953, Phyllis married her best friend's brother, the late Reverend Paul B Caley. They were happily married for 63 years. Phyllis served in ministry alongside her dear husband's 40+ year ministry and served in many leadership capacities, including being a SundaySchool teacher, woman's speaker, and singing in the choir. In 1981, Phyllis fulfilled her dream of completing her college degree by graduating from the College of Saint Rose, in Albany, NY and earned her B.S. in Elementary Education. She spent most of her career as a second-grade elementary school teacher at the Schenectady Christian School, in Scotia NY. She retired from teaching in 1993. Phyllis was the loving mother to six children; five girls and one boy, whom she and Paul adopted from Korea. She was preceded in death by her beloved Paul B Caley, and is survived by her sister, Janet Donaldson (Robert) and her children Anne Landseidel (Steve), Debbie Boswell, Connie DeNovio (Bill), Janet Lenehan (Dave), Peter Caley (Jeanne), and Cathy Lemay (Mathieu). Phyllis is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In Phyllis' own words: "Like a pebble cast into a pond, so the ripples left behind briefly record the passing of the pebble. So also is a life. Like footprints in the sand, life is recorded, but soon washed away by the tides of time. For all that is good, the glory goes to the Lord. For all the weakness and failures, I rejoice that God forgives even these. This knowledge has given me strength in the hard places and the hope of a glorious life in Heaven-not because of any goodness in me, but because of God's goodness and love towards me. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. (Ps.23:1) The faithfulness of the Lord has not failed me. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." (Ps.23:6) It is my constant prayer that you all may lay hold of the meaning of John 3:16 and forever faithfully follow in the footprints of the Lord. I love you all! God bless you everyone, forever!"
