Patricia M Richute (Favata)

February 5, 1947 — July 4, 2015

Patricia Richute (Favata) of Charlton, NY, died after a brief illness on July 4, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Pat was 68 years old. Pat is survived by her daughter, Roxanne DeJohn (Rick) of East Greenbush, NY, sister Geraldine Nicolella (Louis) of Rotterdam, NY, and brother, Raymond Favata of Charlton, NY, grandchildren Sam and Riley DeJohn of East Greenbush, NY, niece Kimberly Southern (Michael) of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, nephew Anthony Johnson (Kimberly) of Trumbull, Connecticut, nephew Dominick Favata of Rotterdam, NY, nephew Antoni Favata of Rotterdam, NY, and beloved aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Rose Favata. Pat was born in Schenectady, NY, graduated from Schalmont High School, and lived in the area throughout her life. She graduated from Ohio State University with a teaching degree and went on to teach art in the Draper/Mohonasen school district for over 25 years, touching the lives of thousands of students. She was a favorite chaperone on field trips to Boston and Washington, D.C. Pat was known by all as a fantastic baker and cook and she loved to share her creations with family and friends alike. Pat's childhood love of horses was a strong influence throughout her life. Her earliest memories were of walking miles to a nearby stable just to get a peek at the magnificent animals. She had recently purchased her dream horse, a Lusitano - a breed known for its power, intelligence and willing nature. Pat was an active member of ENYDCTA where she served on various committees in support of Dressage at Saratoga. Pat's lifelong quest to be one with her horse drove her to work diligently on mastering the art of classical dressage, following the teachings of Mr. Nuno Oliveira. She did not do this for competition or accolades; she did this simply because she loved it. Pat was well known within the equine community as both a horse trainer and riding instructor. She spent countless hours sharing her gift with riders, young and old, assisting them with perfecting their craft and strengthening the bond with their horse. One of her proudest equine accomplishments was with her horse of 27 years "Mr. Spock", a one-time racehorse that gave Pat sheer joy when he gave her Spanish walk and piaffe while under saddle. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8 from 5-8pm at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady. A service will be on Thursday, July 9 at 10:30am in the Mausoleum at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Rd., Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Pat's memory may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Scotia, NY 12302.
