Norma Rollins Maughan, of Schenectady, died on June 17, 2021 at the age of 94. She was born in Mountain Green, Utah, in 1927.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Clyde V. Maughan; her six children, Bruce, Nancy (Andrew) Crapo, Anita (Stephen) McKee, Alan (Barbara), James (Sharon), and Carolyn; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Myron B. Rollins. She is predeceased by her parents, Zina Pearl Bybee and Oscar Whitaker Rollins, 10 siblings, and 2 grandchildren.
Norma valued music and learned to play the piano at an early age. She played the alto clarinet in a college orchestra, where she met her future husband, Clyde, who played the French horn. She later learned to play the organ and became very accomplished, often playing for church services.
She passed her love of music on to her posterity. Attending performances of the NYC Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC, and listening to classical music were interests that she enjoyed whenever possible.
Norma grew a large vegetable garden and had beautiful flower gardens surrounding her home. She was active in several garden clubs and participated in flower shows. She loved arranging flowers for her home and church. After years of study, she became a master flower show judge.
Her one regret was never finishing college, but she more than made up for it by instilling a strong commitment to higher education in her children and grandchildren, who have earned a wide variety of advanced degrees. Summer vacations with her family consisted of travel, camping, and exploring historic or educational sites. She enjoyed cross country skiing near here home.
She will be remembered for her dedication to family and quiet service to others. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of capacities within the church.
