Norma E Orton (Mattice-Audi)

March 1, 1928 — September 14, 2022

Our beautiful mother, our hero, Norma E. Orton sadly passed away on September 14th at the age of 94 at the Gateway House of Peace in Ballston Spa with her family and God’s Angels by her side.

Mom was born to Ford and Mary Mattice on March 1, 1928. She graduated from Draper High School in Rotterdam, NY. After graduation she worked at the New York Telephone Company as a switchboard operator and later in life, after raising her children, she worked at the A&P grocery store and Freihofers Bakery Outlet as a cashier. She also worked at the Congregation Beth Israel where she was recognized for her “hard and conscientious work”.

Norma is survived by her two sons Eugene Audi (Linda) and Joseph Audi (Kathy,) one daughter Janice Black (Brian) as well as Grandchildren - Ryan Audi (Danielle), Matthew Audi (Kristen), Megan Audi, Taylor Audi, Jena Audi, Christina Audi, John Armbruster (Lindsay), James Armbruster (Jillian) and Michael Audi and 4 great grandchildren, Mason and Charlotte Armbruster, and Jayce and Madison Audi.

Mom was an avid reader and enjoyed shopping for clothes with matching accessories so she could always look her best. She was a passionate Yankees fan, never missing a game or opportunity to share her opinions about players and coaches.

Mom was a devoted wife and friend, but to us, she was the most caring and loving mom in the world. There was not a day in our lives that we didn’t feel her love.

At mom’s request, there will be no public service, Interment in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady will be private.

Our family would like to thank the Gateway House of Peace and Hospice for the care and love given our mom during her final months of life. Mom referred to the Gateway House of Peace as God’s House, and the people who cared for her as ‘God’s Angels”. Each person who cared for mom showed love, compassion, and friendship; our family will forever be thankful. Mom felt at home at Gateway and being there amongst so many wonderful people gave her a taste of what Heaven would be like. This home, the Gateway House of Peace, does not charge families for their services; all costs are paid for solely by community donations, fundraisers and bequeaths. We, Jan, Gene, and Joe, would be grateful if, in lieu of flowers, you would please consider making a donation to the Gateway House of Peace, 479 Rowland Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020, or online at https://www.gatewayhouseofpeace.org/how-to-help, or to Community Hospice Saratoga Springs or Community Hospice Schenectady.

Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
