Herbert J. Barhydt Jr. 83 beloved Poppy to his family and "Herb" to his many friends passed away Wednesday morning October 6, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Helen (Wiloch) Barhydt Sr. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and Siena College in 1954, Herbert worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Albany for over 20 years, receiving many awards for his work before retiring in 1976. Serving on the USS Yorktown, CV-10, he was a Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. Herbert was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Rotterdam, Rotterdam Elks lodge # 2157, Rotterdam Senior Citizens, Woestina Young at Heart Senior Citizens, the 3rd Order of St. Francis, Happy Hearts Club and VFW Post 357. Herbert is survived by his wife of 59 years Virginia S. (Sendzicki) Barhydt whom he married February 3, 1951, his son, Kevin J. Barhydt (Echi) of Niskayuna, grandchildren, Tyler and Kentaro Barhydt, Angel Jackson (Michael) and LeeAnn Jones (Bryant), great grandchildren, Christopher and Josiah Jones, his sister Marolynn Jensen (Lanny) of Schenectady and many nieces and nephews. Herbert was also predeceased by his brother Ronald Barhydt. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning October 12 at 9:15am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY followed at 10am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Princetown Rd., Rotterdam, NY where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening October 11, 2010 from 4 to 7 pm. Interment with military honors will be in Saratoga National Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Barhydt's memory may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of NYS, 90 State St., Albany, NY 12207.
