GEORGE A. ANDERSON, 85, died peacefully at his home on Feb 6, 2011 at the Fountains of Boca Ciega Bay in South Pasadena, FL. He was attended by his immediate family and was under the care of Suncoast Hospice. He had been a resident of the Fountains for 5 years where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow residents, but especially the various musical activities which occurred there, receiving many compliments on his own fine singing voice. He was born in Schenectady, NY on May 22, 1925 and graduated with a Commercial Degree from Mount Pleasant High School in 1943. He worked first with the Ellis Hospital Ambulance crew and subsequently graduated from the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School at Portsmouth, Va., as a Hospital Apprentice. He served in that capacity during WWII, attached to the 8th Beach Battalion and then later, during his Korean War naval service, he became a Medical Field Technician. He worked for Sealtest Ice Cream and then General Electric Company in his birth-place during the period of time between his two military service deployments. He returned to employment with G.E. after his Korean War deployment and worked there in the Service Engineering Dept. assisting with the manufacture of large motors and generators for 37 ½ years until his retirement. He was a member of the Sampson WW II Navy Veterans and attended several of the Eighth Beach Battalion Amphibious Force reunions. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 357 and 1895 in Schenectady, NY. He was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scotia, NY, where he was involved with the Braille Program. George also served as Deacon and Elder at Trinity Reformed, Mont Pleasant Reformed and Our Savior's Lutheran Churches. He was predeceased by his parents George A. Anderson, Sr. and Louise K. Wohlfart , and his beloved wife Evelyn Elizabeth (Graham) Anderson after 34 years of marriage. He is survived by his two daughters Marian A. Mattice of West Oneonta, NY and Claire A. Malczyk of St. Petersburg, FL, sister Dorothy Schrom of Raleigh, NC, son-in-laws Frank Malczyk and Kenneth Mattice, and grandsons Jeffery George and Matthew Callan Malczyk, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Viewing will take place Saturday afternoon, February12th, from 1-3pm followed by a service at 3 pm at Bond Funeral Home,Inc., Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY. Burial will take place at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY where his late wife was laid to rest, later this spring. The couple shared the same Confirmation Bible verse which is inscribed on the grave marker, "Be Thou Faithful unto Death and I will Give Thee a Crown of Life. Rev. 2:10" Memorial contributions may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 103 South Reynolds St., Scotia, New York 12302.
