Mildred Valachovic

Mildred (Millie) Valachovic passed away peacefully on December 12th at the age of 98.

Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia , Milada came to Schenectady to marry Mike Valachovic after meeting him when he was stationed there with the Army during World War II.

She became part of the close-knit Valachovic family – all living on Long Avenue in Rotterdam. It was there that she and Mike raised their two sons, Frank and Bobby. Millie was a kind and loving individual to everyone she met. She was known for her exceptional skill and talent as a seamstress, as well as for her baking, especially her Czech pastries.

She was most at home at their property on Sacandaga Lake and spent many of her later years at this beautiful waterfront location. She always welcomed family and friends and will be remembered for her gracious hospitality. The Valachovic camp was known as the place to be for great food (and lots of it!), water skiing, and fast boats!!!

Millie was an ardent supporter of their family business, Carman Body Works. This company was founded by Mike in 1947 and was known for their quality of work, state-of-the-art towing equipment and dedication to the community. After Mike’s passing in 1968, her sons Frank & Bob continued the collision repair operation, which is now celebrating over 75 years of service to the local area.

Millie was predeceased by her husband Mike, and son Bobby. She is survived by her son Frank (Joan); nephews Jay (Meg), Richard (Mary Catherine), Ken (Sandy), niece Susan, and numerous friends, especially from “the lake”.

Arrangements are with the Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Avenue. Friends are invited to a Calling Hour which will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday – December 20th, followed by a service at 2:00pm.
