Michael R. Zimolka 68 passed away peacefully at home on Monday evening April 25th after a 5 year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born and educated in Schenectady, Michael was the son of the late Joseph and Emma "Peggy" (Lee) Zimolka and a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Following graduation in 1965, Michael enlisted in the United State Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. Michael was employed by the General Electric Company and the United States Post Office for over 30 years until is retirement. An avid bowler from the time he started stacking pins at Mont Pleasant Lanes, Michael was known as the tournament director, putting teams together to participate in tournaments both local and as far away as Reno, NV. Michael would even color coordinate the teams clothing for the tournaments. A tremendous fan of all the NY Sports Teams, he loved going to Tampa for the Yankee's spring training, where he would try to get signatures for his expanded baseball card collection. He would leave work on his lunch to watch his boys play baseball at Collins Park. A huge Elvis fan, Michael treasured his visit to Graceland. Survived by his beloved wife Marilyn Primett Zimolka whom he married February 20, 1981, his children; James T. Zimolka, Michael H. Zimolka, Heath J. Zimolka (Meghan) and Heidi L. Zimolka, brother; Robert Zimolka (Karen), grandchildren; Emilee, James Jr., Zoey, William, Zachary, Noah and Zoe, his brother-in-law; Jay Primett, sisters-in-laws;Joan Schiavone (Mario) Betty Wallace and Heidi Slurff along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday morning May 2, 2016 at 11 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening May 1st from 5 to 8 pm. Interment with military honors will be in Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY Michael's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hope and Sherry of Hospice for the excellent care and compassion given to him during his last several weeks. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Michael's memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW Lilburn, GA 30047 or to Community Hospice for their excellent end of life care.
