Merle Edmund Hughes

Merle Edmund Hughes, 94, of Schenectady passed away peacefully on Friday July 14, 2017 at the Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in the Town of Glen, Montgomery County. He was the son of the late William and Edna(Cleveland) Hughes. Merle attended school in that village and graduated from Fultonville High School in 1941. Merle was employed for a short time for the General Electric Company until entering the service in 1943 in the Army during World War II. Upon returning home, Merle was self-employed as a carpenter. Merle was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served a Labor Mission in California in 1964. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Marian Hughes, who died in infancy. Merle is survived by several cousins. Funeral Services for Merle will be Tuesday 11AM at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 52 Blue Barns Road Rexford., NY A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11AM at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY. Contributions can be made in Merle's memory to the Salvation Army or to the City Mission of Schenectady. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
