Melva M Curtis (Jordon)

Melva M. Curtis, 88, of Schenectady passed away on Monday March 20, 2017 at the Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a twenty-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She fought the good fight, and is now dancing in the clouds to Glenn Miller, with our dad Bob Curtis. She was born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Vandenburgh) Jordon. Melva was employed for 25 years as a secretary for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. Melva was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Schenectady. She also was a member of the GE's women's club and the Annie Schaeffer Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, reading and travel. Melva also enjoyed all pets. Melva was passionate about her summer home at Overlook Beach at Sacandaga Lake. She belonged to the Overlook Beach Club for over 60 years. Melva also greatly enjoyed each year her winter home at New Port Richie, Florida. Besides her parents, Melva is predeceased by her husband W. Robert Curtis who passed away in 2012.She is also predeceased by one brother Robert F. Jordon II and one nephew Robert F. Jordon III. Melva is survived by her children Susan Arehart (Arthur) of Greenfield Center, Joyce Dunn of South Hero, VT and Carol Nowell (Robert) of Kennesaw, GA, one niece Elizabeth Jordon of Orchard Lakes, MI and two grandchildren Stephen Nowell and Gregory Nowell both of Georgia. A graveside funeral service for Melva will be on Friday March 24, 2017 at 2 PM at Memory Gardens 963 Watervliet Shaker Road in Colonie. A celebration in appreciation of the hard-working staff at Capital Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who took care of Melva, will be held in the Adirondack Room at Capital Living Nursing home on Tuesday, the 28 of March from 2 to 5 pm to remember Melva Curtis and the staff who cared for her. Melva and her late husband Bob supported numerous charities. In lieu of flowers, we are asking those who knew her to perform an act of kindness to someone who needs it most or better yet provide a home for a sheltered animal. You may also wish to support your local Veterans or armed Services group, animal rescue shelter in your area or the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
