PFC Matthew C. Stanley, 20, of Rotterdam, New York, passed away suddenly on June 10, 2024. Born on June 10, 2004, he was a graduate of Schalmont High School.
Matthew was a proud member of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Ghost Troop, 2nd Platoon, 4th Squad. He found a home in the Army through his admiration of his great-grandfather, Charles Stanley Sr., who was a bomber pilot during WWII. Matthew earned the Global War of Terrorism Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He was well liked and respected by his commanders and peers as a fun-loving yet stalwart and dependable comrade-in-arms. He was stationed in Germany and enjoyed exploring Europe with his buds.
Matthew will be remembered by family and his many friends for his infectious smile and love of life, fishing, cliff diving, camping with his family, hiking, watching westerns and war movies with his Pop Pop, playing online games, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
Surviving family members include his mother, Erin M. Stanley; stepfather, William J. Clark: stepmother Kristy Rich; grandfather, Charles E. Stanley Jr. (Pop Pop); step-grandmothers Patricia Clark; Patricia and Michael Laudicina, and Heather Flynn; half-siblings William Clark; Abigail Clark, and Justin Clark; stepsibling Madison Laudicina, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the best little brother to his sister Haley Stanley and the best big brother and protector to his sister Katherine Clark. He was preceded in death by his stepbrother Cameron Zakrzewski.
We were all very proud of him.
Just when he had found his way, he was gone. He will be missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7PM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Interment will be held private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be contributed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
