Mary L. Moran-Raymond, 71, of Scotia passed away at Ellis Hospital on Tuesday, March 5,2024. Born in Kingston, New York, Mary was the daughter of the late Francis and Louise (Natale) Moran.
Mary was a graduate of Kingston High School and continued her education at Suny Albany where she graduated with a nursing degree. She later became a nurse for Schenectady County Public Health Services where she functioned with effectiveness and dedication as coordinator of TB services.
In her free time Mary enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, word games, exercise classes, hiking, walking, kayaking and snowshoeing. She was an avid reader and a member of the Scotia Village Book Club.
Mary loved caring for others. She took special interest in thoughtfully selecting gifts and experiences on many occasions for family members. She enjoyed fostering nurturing and fun relationships with her grandchildren. Mary passed on her love of reading to her children and grandchildren. She used her sewing skills to create beautiful items for her children, grandchildren, as well as less fortunate children in the greater community.
Throughout her life Mary was involved in helping out within her community. In her years-long participation in the St Joseph's Church Social Concerns Committee, she helped organize and engage in a wide variety of service projects. Earlier she was a dedicated Girl Scout leader and PTA participant.
She displayed an appealing combination of inquisitiveness, perseverance, challenge seeking, personability, considerateness and compassion. Though sorely missed, this combination in Mary will continue to be appreciated by and inspire those she came in contact with.
Predeceased by her parents, Mary is survived by her husband James Raymond, her son Matthew Raymond (Dawn) and their children Dean and Luke, her daughter Lianne Eakins (Kyle) and their children Finley and Knox. She also leaves behind one brother John Moran (Gina) and their children David, Angie, and Meredith along with their grandchildren Connor, Johnny, Gia and Fallon.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13th at St. Joseph's Church, 231 Second Street Scotia, NY 12302 from 9-11AM. A Funeral service will follow at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Catholic Charities Schenectady, Schenectady County Mission or American Heart Association.
