Mary F. Decker, 94, formerly of New Paltz, died Wednesday morning, July 28, 2010 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home in Schenectady, NY. Born in Gardiner, NY, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Cora (Slater) Tubbs. Educated in Gardiner and New Paltz, Mary graduated from New Paltz Normal School. After graduation, she taught at Schodack district school in Castleton on Hudson, NY for 2 years. Mary was employed by the Ulster County Department of Social Services as a case worker and supervisor for 23 years. She also worked as a volunteer English teacher in Wallkill State Prison for 7 years. After retirement in 1984 Mary volunteered as a teacher's aide in Highland, NY and New Paltz, NY. She was a lifelong member of Gardiner Reformed Church where she was a teacher and superintendent of Sunday school, and was active in youth fellowship. Mary was also a member of Rebekah Lodge #572 in Highland, NY. Mary was predeceased in 1980 by her husband David M. Decker whom she married on November 17, 1940. She is also predeceased by her grandson, Scott Decker in 1989, her sister, Isobel Nichols and niece Lois Farrel. Mary is survived by her two sons Larry M. Decker (Carol) of Pattersonville, NY and Kenneth J. Decker (Mary E.) of Ocean Isle, NC, her grandchildren, Sharon Decker-Scanlon (Patrick) , Nancy Decker-Russo (Louis), Alan Decker (Jodi) , Kathleen Decker-Caunitz (Dwayne), Wayne Hues (Christina, June Hues and Roseann Hues. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 11 am at the Bruynswick Rural Cemetery in Wallkill, NY. In Lieu of Flowers contributions in Mary's name can be made to the Youth Program at Gardiner Reformed Church, 166 Main Street, Gardiner, NY 12525.
