Mary Margaret (Maiello) Cassillo 93 of Scotia passed away peacefully on June 24, 2008. Born in Schenectady on June 9, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Concetta (Menditto) Maiello. A 1933 graduate of Nott Terrace High School, Mary worked for the General Electric Company for over 18 years before her retirement in1975. A communicant of St. Anthony's Church, she was a member of the choir and the Sacred Heart Society. She partnered with her husband Pep to create and run the Erie Blvd. Boxing Arena in the 30's and 40's and was a cofounder of Ring 26, The International Veteran Boxing Association. Mary was an active participant of the Parents Association of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 66 at St Anthony's where she helped raise funds and cooked for troop 66 at Boy haven. She gave freely and lovingly of her time to her family and friends and volunteered at St. Anthony's Feast, the city mission, Proctor's Theater as an usher and Happy Hearts as secretary. Mary played Scrabble to the very end but her most lasting legacy is her love and caring for her family. Mary was predeceased in 1995 by her husband of 58 years Joseph "Pep" Cassillo and was also predeceased by sisters, Frances Caffalette and Rose Ranalli and brothers Ralph and Tony Maiello. She is survived by her children; Marilyn Cardinal of Rotterdam, Dr. Donna Mae Cassillo of Milwaukee, WI, Joseph Cassillo and wife Lois of Herkimer and Paul Cassillo and wife Dana Berti of Schenectady, her sisters, Angelina Villano and Florence Maiello and brother Carl Maiello all of Schenectady, her grandchildren, Jeffrey Cardinal (Linda), Albert Cardinal (Laura), Mary Jo Polfleit (Jim), Tracy Toscano (Jeff), Katie Yarbrough (Tom), Christina Cassillo, Jessica Pettengill (Billy), Pep Cassillo, Wesley Warren, Maria Warren, Annalise Cassillo, Mary Martha Cassillo and Pauline Cassillo, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces ,nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning June 28th at 8:15 am at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY followed at 9 am at St Anthony's Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm Entombment in St Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville, NY Contributions may be made in Mary's memory to St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12305
