Martha May Ostrander

Martha May Ostrander, 94, died peacefully at home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida on September 15, 2007.surrounded by her loving family. Martha was born in Gloucester, England on July 30, 1913 to Harry and May (Nicholls) Broom and moved to Schenectady at age 3. She was employed as an Executive secretary for 34 years for GE in Schenectady. Following the death of her husband, Franklin Ostrander, in 1973, she retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida. For many years she spent summers in the Adirondacks and made many trips to England to visit her family. Martha was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Smyrna Beach. She was active in the Florida Lutheran Center Auxiliary-including its Martha Circle, Single Sheep and Quilting Workshop. Martha was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the British American Club in New Smyrna Beach. Martha was also a member of the Bellevue Reformed Church in Schenectady prior to moving to Florida. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother Herbert Broome. Survivors include her Sister in law Lucy Broome of Edgewater, Fl. , Nieces-Lucy Koelker ( John), Susan Terry ( David) both of Schenectady, Nephews Richard Broome ( Marilyn) of Lake George and Herbert Broome ( Ellen) of Guilderland, also survived by 10 Grand nieces and nephews as well as 5 Great Grand Nieces and Nephews. A Graveside Service will be held Monday at 2PM at Schenectady Memorial Park Giffords Church Road in Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
