Marlene Schoustra

August 23, 1934 — July 19, 2024

Marlene Fryer Schoustra, 89, of Niskayuna, passed away on Friday early morning July 19, 2024 at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. Born in Freeport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Luther Lee and Stella Viola (Remmler) Lengel.


She was employed as a RN helping patients in hospitals and ending her working career at Olin Corporation in Stamford, CT. Marlene was always very active in Church life – she was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in New Canaan, CT, a member of the Cherry Grove Presbyterian Church in North Myrtle Beach, SC  and later on a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady, NY.


Marlene is predeceased by her two husbands Dr. Forrest William Fryer and Charles Jacob Schoustra as well as her sister Eunice Viola Mutter (Harry).


She is survived by her children Sandra Lynn Peter (Tom), Beth Ann Phelps, Pamela Sue Lowell and Shari MacIvor Brunner (Jurg), her stepchildren Barbara Coffey (James) and Dale Schoustra (Christine), as well as one brother Luther L. Lengel Jr. (Bonita). Marlene also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren – Andrew, Will, Jennifer, Alison, Cyril, Tanner, Fabian, Sarah, Conner, Jonathan, Kelly, Kathleen, Ryan and Holly as well as five great grandchildren – Shelby, Janila, Drew, Sariah and Cameron.


A Celebration of Marlene’s life will be held on July 31, 2024 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady, NY at 2pm.
