Mark A. Fisher

March 18, 1951 — August 9, 2024

Mark A. Fisher, 73 of Broadalbin, peacefully passed surrounded by his children at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville following a brief illness.

Mark was the oldest of three children born to Eva Jane (Gregg) and Allan Fisher. Both parents predecease him, along with his brother, Craig J. Fisher. He is survived by his sister JoAnn Fisher of Red Hook, and his children, Daniel Fisher (Rhonda) of Indian Lake, Catherine Tilton (Tim) of Duanesburg, Laura Halstead (Adam) of Hudson and Rebecca Riggi (Dave) of Guilderland. He was an adored “Grampy” to his seven\\grandchildren: Natalie, Mackenzie, Emma, Bryce, Andrew, Hailee and Savannah.

Mark graduated from Red Hook High School where he excelled at math, history and playing the drums. He completed an Engineering degree at college while beekeeping as a hobby and went on to work in the corporate world while starting his family. In the late 70’s Mark followed his heart and decided to become a farmer. By the mid 80’s he was working as a jack of all trades- farm manager, general contractor, and maintenance man- to support his family. After many years self-employed and working for others, he “retired” to work a farm again alongside his son in 2006. DanMark Farm was his pride and joy. While his children were growing up, he was devoted to them and their community. He volunteered as a 4-H Leader for years and touched the hearts and lives of so many youths. He taught skills in carpentry, woodworking, gardening and animal husbandry. He taught his kids how to work together and lean on each other in times of need. He was a loving guide who always had a quirky joke and tough love to share, often collecting and welcoming “bonus kids” along the way, as many thought of Mr. Fisher as a cherished father figure.

Mark made friends wherever he went; many of whom became life-long friends.  He loved farmer’s markets, craft shows, fairs and festivals and he loved concerts, road trips and big dinners out with his kids. His final retirement, in 2013 was to Shady Bay Lane at The Great Sacandaga Lake where he was dearly cared for by his neighbors. He was kind, he was generous with what little he had, and he loved to laugh- with you or at you.

His witty banter and mild teasing will be missed. He had a million great stories to tell and always had uncomplicated advice to give. He loved a turkey dinner the most and no holiday was complete until he asked the question “wonder what the poor people are doing?” Because to him, having all of us meant he was the richest of them all.

Calling Hour will be at Bond Funeral Home, Schenectady on Thursday, August 22 from 10-11am followed by a service at 11am at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam.
